Windsor Homes and Windsor Community Information

The City of Windsor is located in Sonoma County, just 2 miles from the Russian River. As the Russian River flows southbound through Sonoma and Mendocino Counties and passes the Town of Windsor, it overlooks a family friendly community with an excellent quality of life.  Windsor was named because the town resembles the grounds of Windsor Castle.  Windsor officially was incorporated in 1992, however residents have been living here since 1855. Historically, Windsor served more of the military interests of the nation.  An Army Air base was constructed here in southern Windsor during World War II for the fighter aircraft and bombers.  That airbase is now called the Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport. The army even opened another base one mile from downtown.

Residents of the Windsor enjoy a relatively higher standard of living than other areas of the state and of the nation. The town is a well-planned community with business areas, and a historical downtown area. Combine that with having a wide variety of community services and fun recreational opportunities and you will see that Windsor is an ideal place to live!

As a community, the Town of Windsor stresses education.  The importance of education in Windsor is evident in the excellence in instruction at the local schools.  You have nice teacher-student cooperation at the local kindergarten through 12th grade schools like a Windsor Creek, Mattie Washburn, Brooks Elementary, Cali Calmecac Language Academy, Windsor Middle School and at Windsor High School.
